Udupi, March 8:

International Women’s Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm through the collaborative effort of Apoorva Maha Sangha and Stree Sangathan Udupi. The celebrations began with a solemn Mass at 7:00 a.m. at the Mother of Sorrows Church. The main celebrant was Udupi Diocese Chancellor Fr. Steevan D’Souza, with concelebrants Parish Priest Fr. Charles Menezes and Assistant Parish Priest Fr. Leo D’Souza.

During the Mass, Fr. Leo delivered an inspiring homily highlighting the important role of women in the Bible and their contributions to faith and society. He also mentioned that since 1996, the United Nations has actively promoted the observance of International Women’s Day, emphasizing the need to respect and value women in all spheres of life.

The celebrations continued in the evening at 6:00 p.m. with cultural programs and games organized for women. The program was presided over by chief guest Dr. Diana Saldanha, along with other dignitaries on the dais. In her address, she stressed the importance of women being aware of their rights and responsibilities in society.

The event concluded with a fellowship dinner, bringing together all participants in a spirit of unity and celebration.
