Udupi, September 8, 2026: The Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, popularly celebrated as Monthi Fest, was celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm at Mother of Sorrows Church, Udupi.

The celebrations began at the Super Bazar with the blessing of the new harvest, followed by a solemn procession to the church. The faithful participated wholeheartedly in the procession, carrying flowers and joining in prayer and singing.

The nine-day Novena, during which children offered flowers to Infant Mary, culminated in the festive celebration of the harvest feast.

The Solemn Eucharistic Celebration was presided over by Rev. Fr. Denis D’Sa, with Fr. Vijay Dsuza and Fr. Leo Praveen Douza concelebrating. The liturgy was led by the Marian girls sodaity of the parish, reflecting the active participation of the younger generation in the Church.

The occasion also marked Girl Child Day, celebrating the dignity and importance of every girl child.

In his homily, Fr. Denis D’Sa spoke about the origin and significance of Monthi Fest and its close connection with the earth and harvest. He reminded the faithful of their responsibility to care for creation, protect nature and preserve the greenery for future generations.

At the conclusion of the celebration, prizes were distributed to the winners of the flower arrangement and Moriyal Geeth competitions.

The celebration ended on a joyful note of gratitude and fellowship. In keeping with the cherished tradition of Monthi Fest, sugarcane was distributed to all the faithful, adding a sweet touch to the festive occasion.

The celebration beautifully brought together faith, gratitude for the harvest, devotion to Mother Mary and the unity of the parish community.
