Dear Parishioners,
Greetings and blessings to each one of you.
It has been nearly three months since I assumed responsibility as the Parish Priest of Mother of Sorrows Church, Udupi. During this short period, I have been deeply touched by the warmth, faith, and vibrant spirit of our parish community.
I am grateful to have the support of my young associates, Fr Leo and Fr Vijay D'Souza, who are serving the parish and St Mary's English Medium School with dedication. We are also blessed by the encouragement and guidance of our Bishop, Bishop Emeritus, and the Chancellor.
On Nov. 26, 1880, in Udupi, a chapel for Mother of Sorrows was inaugurated. His Lordship N. Pagani, the then Bishop of Mangalore, issued a decree in 1880 establishing the independent Udupi Parish, appointing Fr. J. N. Masse as the first Parish Priest. Fr. Casmir Fernandes built a small Church, blessed and inaugurated by Bishop Perini on Feb. 8, 1918. From the Udupi Parish emerged two parishes: Christ King Church in Manipal and Stella Maris Church in Kalmady (Malpe).
